Fashion Review #2:

If
there is one thing I want to tell Taylor Swift about her look at the 57th
Grammy Awards, it’s that she needs to Shake
It Off… down to the ground, where no one can see it.
I really
hate to be saying this about an Elie Saab dress but this is not my favorite
look for Swift. Is she under the impression that she’s going to prom?
The ombré
teal-turquoise halter gown features a short skirt at the front, with an
exaggerated, thick full-length layer of fabrics fanning out from both sides. The unique color of the dress beautifully
reflects Swift’s skin tone and I personally salute her for choosing such a daring
color when other celebrities went for more neutral looks. But girl please,
what’s with the glitter-like effect towards the top of the gown?
The
straps from the side of the dress make it look like she’s wearing a matching
bra or carrying a backpack; it takes away from the dress’ glamour. And someone
please tell the country-turned-pop singer that the back of the dress sends out
a completely different vibe than the front. What kind of look were you aiming
for? Make up your mind, Taylor.
No
one can deny the beauty of Taylor’s amazing long legs, but from the waist down,
she gives off an Arielle vibe. Swift opted for fuchsia Giuseppe Zanotti
heels that completed The Little Mermaid costume.
However,
from the neck up, the blonde beauty looks absolutely stunning. Her hair flows
smoothly to her shoulders and her bangs are beautifully swept across her face.
The choice of smoky eye make-up is risky but nicely complements her sea-blue
eyes. And I must credit her for her choice of accessories. The gorgeous pair of
Lorraine Schwartz earrings was a classy choice.
Many people
were not big fans of Swift’s look either. Hana Ezzat, an interior design
student at AUD, said, “The dress is generally eye-catching at first, but the
color could have been different and I think the gradient does not work with the
style of the dress.”
Another
AUD interior design student, Gihan Hafez, said, “I like it but it looks like a
cake that is trying to be a pleated skirt.”
Abeer
Al-Ardah, a journalism student at AUD, said she hates the fact that the dress
is short from the front and long from the back. “The concept is not new at all
and I feel the color does not work, neither does the fabric.”
Yasmine
Bahrani, assistant professor of Communications and Information studies at AUD, thought
that Swift’s dress was confusing. “The crisscross at the back is too sporty for
such an elegant gown,” she said.
On
the other hand, some completely fell in love with the Blank Space crooner’s look.
Farah
Heyasat, a business graduate from the German Jordanian University, said, “So
many people are making fun of her dress saying it looks like curtains, but I
love it so much and I even love the shoes with it.”
Farah
Al-Dmour, a business student at AUD, agrees: “She looks so nice, like a
mermaid. And the choice of dress is perfect for her age and type of music.”
I
think Taylor Swift aimed for a Disney look with the color and the design. Many
people drew comparisons of the country singer’s look to Elsa from Frozen. With that in mind, I think
Taylor ought to Let it Go… and by “it”
I mean this dress. But then again, who wouldn’t want to look like two Disney
princesses at once?
